Easy job/Simple job
This is term I heard from jujimufu. Easy job is you get well paid for that is not too stressful that gives you free time, autonomy, basically job you don’t hate and job that easy for you to do. This easy job would also be as I talk about start of the book we already talked about what simple really means. Easy job is something that doe nots take away from your energy system so you don’t feel tired after every day work and do things you want to do).
Many famous people have taken easy jobs so they can follow their passion many actors work as actors who have worked as waiters and waitress such as Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe and Chris Pratt and singers such as Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani. Albert Einstein work in a Patent Officer in his he normally completed his tasks quickly so he had enough time pursue his scientific work. Nikola Tesla was not able enrol Charles-Ferdinand University due to never studied Greek and he was illiterate in Czech both required subjects. But got an easy Job as auditor for the university attend the lecturers not only learn for free, he was also being paid for attending these lectures. Didn’t receive any grades but he learnt lot of useful information that would service him for the rest of his life this is really something we should think about when comes to learning I know lot of people that went college really didn’t learn that much. This type of easy job was use by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino work in movie theatre and movie store this help him expand his knowledge of his craft at time remember there was no Netflix, so having excess to so many movies was unusual. I know we are now use to huge readily available library of movies to watch today but this was case at time so his job gave a huge encyclopaedia knowledge that not many people could have at the time. Easy job is used by ordinary People to life their best life as we will talk about. We really have to talk about this because it’s so easy to get hung up on my famous people done but what really matter to use are ordinary people.
For example, jujimufu work in biotechnology easy job for him that allow him to follow his passion which was making YouTube fitness videos and he was able to quit job and do YouTube full time. If don’t who he is he is a jacked bodybuilder that does backflips and the splits. Now for example a bodybuilder or anyone into fitness can work personal trainer. Many writers have been teacher or lecturers I have known people that compete sports do these kinds of jobs because give more autonomy and free time many of these people have competed at their chosen sport at a high level. I know of world champion kickboxer who work as bin men as low stress job that gave him the time needed to train. I know of people who are Engineers that are musicians. I know of poet who worked the government job. Lot of sciences have work lecturers to getting funding for their studies look there Consulting jobs and teach English jobs these also can be easy jobs. I don’t mean these jobs are easy they make life easy to follow your dreams. Easy job is subjective person to person for someone who for someone trying to in chemical engineering degree or an aptitude for science or into science in anyway a job in biotechnology maybe easy job of course if have no interest in this type of job than it won’t be easy job for someone who like being outdoors maybe job as bin man or postman might be your easy job if don’t like being outdoors this is not easy job. Many more examples a lot of unionised job have great conditions you may have to ask around or do your own research. Some jobs list may be hard job depending on the working conditions and what kind work find easy.
Of course, if their job really what you want to go it’s their passion course go for it, I am talk about people who want to follow passion that not relate to their job.
This is similar in many ways to Tim Ferriss Muse idea that he has written about in the 4-hour work week this again is not a new idea but easy job is the baby step to easy job. Basically, muse is a business that a low-maintenance business that generates significant income so you can follow your passion. Even really successful business over time turn into muse as business matures it is scale in such a way that other people run the business without the founder of the business, see Bill Gates of Microsoft as example.
Let’s talk about a Hard job is the opposite job that stressful, no free time, working more hours than you should, no autonomy you are micromanage or even the environment is really oppression and really take away from your energy system. Signs are if lot people leaving the department, office feels depressing or unhappy, if management don’t train staff and then give out to staff not knowing how to do something sign of dysfunctional organisation. work environment is toxic. you’re expected to do two- or three-people’s jobs with no increase pay. Jobs like these normally in company’s not run well and could go bankrupt or have bad management. Look if this is causing stress making you negative you are not following passions even if you are, this is not good for health look for new job where you are happier. Some signs that keep talking about promotions never come up or very little increase or little increase from what your expected to do this sign they are using carrot method of keeping you work hard. For example, I know of person who should be job that should be easy job/simply job however because of management decisions she in a job of three people she is pretty much the manager without being paid. Her salary is really low. She would be better off leaving job working a minimum wage job. But she won’t because in her words she is institutionalised. This person would be huge asset it any job she works at however as I have said only you can set you free. This why I talk about this subject so extensively in the mental section.
Hard jobs could be call centre work, financial jobs, sales because of these jobs generally known for having a bad work environment. On that point any company with bad company culture, bad managers or toxic environment can make any job a hard job. This can also be vice versa good company culture, good mangers and positive work environment can make hard jobs.
Hard job is the opposite of easy job in that it is emotionally mentally physically draining to the point that you can do things you want or thing you are passion about. For example, if your father and you simply want spend time with children do job that takes up so much of your energy all you can do a slump in the sofa any job like this would not be worth in long term no matter how much money you make because that job is taking too much of your life.
Really any job that soul destroying to you take too much energy to live your life. Soul destroying job depends on person. Soul destroying can also take a lot of your energy and your will power which means when you finish job you don’t really do anything after work because you feel so drained. Now for some people soul destroying job could be sales job but for another person sales job could be good job give them freedom but for another person working sales could be hell. So, job can be hard job depending on your own personal likes and dislikes. But if place has high staff turnover it has lots of negative reviews about working their safe to say it’s probably this is not good place to work.
What crazy is you can and I am not recommending this, work way more hours in an easy job and still have lot of energy left over to do the things you want. The reason for this is the way are energy system work if we are do doing things we hate or gives us a lot of stress it will drain are energy much quicker than doing something we don’t hate and is not stressful. I know I have done this myself went from hard job to easy job because of doing a good bit of over time (by choice, look a job with force overtime is not a good job) I was working a little bit longer but I had way more energy was getting way more done in life (things I want to do) than when I was working hard job crazy thing is I actually had less time. This is a very Big different I have notice this is proven if work easy jobs vs hard job. You spend more money on hard job as you have to treat yourself for having stressful job.
Some of you may be thinking I am in a hard job it has long hours but pay really well. I mean six figures well. This is up to you but life is for living. high stress money can be good for you short term and in control way but in long term it going to be bad for your health wise and mentally.
Some jobs such as account or even some law jobs are stressful at start but long term, they led to management job that less stressful turn into easy job that fair enough if feel worth it. However, some jobs are like treadmill like some sales jobs or some retail jobs or some other jobs. Don’t matter how hard you run still same place. By this I mean stress level doesn’t decrease doesn’t matter how hard work you are not better off the job is still a hard job. (Jobs I list are just examples)
If you add up all hours you are working you are probably working for less than minimum wage. Look if you are in that kind of job you can probably move to easy job that will pay less but if you do figures probably pay more per hour. Look set date when you want to leave even in year time mark on the calendar. It will give you huge sense of relief. Of course, if had this date set you might save a bit of more money. Now when designing set leave in one-year time but you realise bonus date is one month. You can reset date until after you get bonus. Day after you get bonus hand in letter of resignation. But no matter when date set that day you quit and obviously look for jobs. If you in this kind of job it means you can make this money yourself in another business so don’t sell yourself short and you probably have plenty of other opportunities and talking to good recruiter maybe helpful.
Now some people turn an easy job into hard job by taking on too much responsibility. If this case you’re going to have to stop this from happening and become more assertive at first it won’t be easy but nothing is. Sometimes if manager keep giving extra work simple telling them I have got too much to do will be enough if that not good enough breaking down what you do how much time it will take because believe it or not sometimes manager think things are easy to do and straight forward or sometimes, they don’t even realise how much extra work they are giving you or they don’t realise how long task actually takes. By doing this it makes pretty clear to your manager why you can’t do it. You may not realise it but most managers don’t how long it takes do stuff. But simple be good at saying no will help this can be hard for people pleasers but it will worth in the end. You’re not superman only human. Sometimes if you’re in senior position you’re not delegating the work as you should and you need to work on this by training staff and dividing the work equally. You Need to work on your delegation skills. Easy job is something you can do well without be overworked. I personally know of few people who have done maths working out three days they can pay their bill have little left over. so, they can just spend time with their family which is best for them. Of course, not everyone can but some people reading this can. So, for some people it is something look into if the maths is right.
