Reading Journal
Reading Journal is basically a way of keeping tracking of the book you have read now some people would call this reading list. Their lot of benefits to this which I will talk about one of the many benefits is keep track of the books you have read and its good way of keep score because if plan is read 12 books with this journal its good way of keep score of the amount of book you have read.
If you start reading journal, I recommend starting one every year. So, you know what book you have read during the year.
Seen the numbers and having deadline works well because for lot of people seeing numbers and having deadline will push to read a bit more. It also good to have journal as if your goal to have well balance educated see the genre of the book will keep track of the balance educated.
On journal it will ask Find the genre of book which sounds easier than it actually however Some books such as for example Outliers: The Story of Success can fit into few different genres such as Nonfiction, Psychology, Business, Self Help, Sociology, Sciences and even more. You can pick genre that you feel it most closely aligns to. I also it I am following reading course like well-educated mind like to stick to genre definitions of the book well educated mind. Keep genre broad enough that you don’t have to many sub category but define enough that book fit into category. Which help to keep things easy and simple.
Of course, depending on your goals. You may have to change category to fit your goals. If you goal for the year is to have broad view of science it may be more useful for you to use five branches of science as category Chemistry, Physics, Geology, astronomy and Biology
Here example of book list you can create excel sheet (this is what I use) or similar software or app.
If you list on your laptop and read book or reading the book from e reader. You can save the book you read on your email or bit of paper and do later. This is what I do.
I use title, author and genre. To keep things simple but the four category I use to use which will be useful for some people is date when finish read the book. I use to do this notice some months I read lot of books for example ten books and others I may only read two books.
I know of some people use gender or nationality if their goal is read more book written by women. Or nationality when someone goal is to read more about country or their own country to better understand themselves. While I will say first off always judge book about the contact of book. Sometimes we try divide ourselves into many category’s and forget about having broader few of share human experience. Keep this in mind.
Although if the goal this fifth category is great as if learn more about your own logna just keep in mind to still try keep broad view. Sometimes you reading goals will inter connect. two of my goals reading goal last year was to read more dramas and to read more works from Irish writers. Luckily for me Ireland is Ireland renowned for famous playwrights so I was able to hit two birds with one stone. This is optional you can have second Journal where you write the three things you learn from a book. This one if up to you on my website I will provide these two temples to use with instructions.
Optional have list where you write three ideas you learn from each book you read after you read it. We do this because if follows the 80/20 rule. Simple easy way of doing this instead of making too many notes
